Prelude

Advent Candle lighting
L: "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness -- on them light has shined... For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:2, 6)
L: Today we remember the prophets of old, who demanded to be heard, who dared to speak of a child to come, unexpected liberator of the people, vulnerable incarnation of the Holiest of Holies, a new name for God.
P: Today we give thanks for the prophets among us, who bring to us surprising new visions of hope, who challenge us to think outside the box, who show us a future we never anticipated.
L: On this first Sunday of Advent, we light this candle as a symbol of the prophets who renew our faith and remind us of what may be.

Hymn  245 O Come, O Come Emmanuel

Silent Prayer of Confession

Sung Response & Assurance of Pardon
“Lord have mercy upon us. Christ have mercy upon us. Lord have mercy upon us.”

Glory to the Father
“Glory be to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.”

An Affirmation of Faith (unison)
This is the good news which we received, in which we stand and by which we are saved; that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day; and that he appeared to Mary, then to the twelve, and to many faithful witnesses. We believe he is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. He is the first and the last, the beginning and the end, he is our Lord and our God. Amen.

Sharing of Joys and Concerns & Prayers of the People

The Lord’s Prayer
"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.  Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.”

Anthem

Scripture                                                                   Luke 21:25-36

Offertory Prayer

Offertory

Sung Response
“We give Thee but Thine own, whate’er the gift may be. All that we have is Thine alone, a trust O Lord from Thee.”

Communion
“Come to the table of mercy, prepared with the wine and the bread; all who are hungry and thirsty, come and your souls will be fed. Come at the Lord’s invitation; receive from his nail-scarred hand. Eat of the bread of salvation, drink of the blood of the Lamb.”

The Peace
L    God sent the world his only Son. Since God loved us so much,
we too should love one another.
P:   Let us love one another, since love comes from God.
L:   The Peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
P:   (to each other) The Peace of Christ be with you.

Benediction

Sung Response
May the Lord, Mighty God, bless and keep you forever; Grant you peace, perfect peace, courage in every endeavor. Lift your eyes and see his face, and his love forever. May the Lord, risen Lord, bless and keep you forever.

CHURCH EVENTS THIS WEEK

Giving Through the App
·       Giving by using a credit or debit card, or electronic bank transfer, giving through the church app and tithe.ly makes it easy. Once set up, you can give to any number of church funds. It can be set to automate your giving once a week/month, etc. Though there is a cost of 3%, you can choose to cover that cost!
Planned Giving
·       Ever thought of giving to the church through your will? You do have one, yes?! If you have a will, you can leave a gift to the church. Talk to your attorney. Your gift will enable the church to be the church and do what the church needs to do for years to come!
Reminder from Our Treasurer
·       Feel free to hand in your pledges if forgotten to date, and remember reminder that pledges aren't needed to be on the envelope system.
·       If someone would like envelopes so they can get a year-end tax receipt please just put a note in the offering plate the next couple weeks. Envelopes will ready for distribution the Sunday of our annual meeting, December 9.
Thank you to all!
  • Because of the generosity of all our people we have been able to pay all of our bills, dream about and start new mission, and even fix some things that needed fixing.
  • We are dreaming about some additional new mission and are open to new ideas about how to reach out to new people, or to reach some of our own more effectively.
  • If you see a field ready to harvest, or a place were some planting could be done in order to grow God’s kingdom, please speak to Jeff or any elder: Chuck, John, Robbie, Neil, Elizabeth, Jim, Kelly, Ann or Kevin, or Clerk of Session, Candy Burnett!
Decorating for Advent and Christmas
·       Many thanks to Marilyn, Bob, and the crew for the wonderful decorations! We are ready!
EMPOWERkids
·       Our advent party will be on December 2nd in the fellowship hall during the 9:30AM service.
·       On December 9th we will have pageant practice in the sanctuary during the annual meeting. There are only THREE Sundays left until our pageant date, and we are rehearsing a little every week. Please be sure the children attend each week to practice.
·       Our Christmas Pageant will be on Sunday, December 16th at 9:30. We will take a little break from our regular curriculum in December to focus on the coming savior during our class times. After all, Jesus entering the world is the reason for the ENTIRE season, and we don't intend to focus too much attention on anything else but HIM!!
·       NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO EMPOWERkids ON SUNDAY DECEMBER 23RD AND 30TH.
·       Children's Christmas Eve Service will be December 24th at 5PM.

·       To help at 11:00am, see Jeff, John, Elizabeth or Wendy.
·       The service is recorded, and can be found at https://www.facebook.com/otisville.presbyterian/
·       The cost upgrade will cost about $3500-$5000. Donations are welcome. You can go to Tithe.ly – Facebook Live

Remembrance Sunday – December 9
·       On Sunday, December 9, we will end our service with the lighting of candles at the 8:30 and 11:00 services. All are invited to come forth during the final hymn to light a candle for a loved one. It is a beautiful sight to see the lit candles and to know they represent so much love and hopefully offer some peace.
