Prelude

Advent Candle lighting
L"The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darknesson them light has shined. For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Today we remember the prophets of old, who demanded to be heard, who dared to speak of a child to come, unexpected liberator of the people, vulnerable incarnation of the Holiest of Holies, a new name for God.
P: Today we give thanks for the prophets among us, who bring to us surprising new visions of hope, who challenge us to think outside the box, who show us a future we never anticipated.
L: On this first Sunday of Advent, we light this candle as a symbol of the prophets who renew our faith and remind us of what may be.

Hymn 170 Give Thanks

Give thanks with a grateful heart;
Give thanks to the Holy One;
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son.
(2x)

And now let the weak say, “I am strong;”
Let the poor say, “I am rich,”
Because of what the Lord has done for us.
(2x)

Silent Prayer of Confession and Sung Response
“Lord have mercy upon us. Christ have mercy upon us. Lord have mercy upon us.”

Assurance of Pardon

Glory to the Father
“Glory be to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.”

An Affirmation of Faith (unison)
This is the good news which we received, in which we stand and by which we are saved; that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day; and that he appeared to Mary, then to the twelve, and to many faithful witnesses. We believe he is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. He is the first and the last, the beginning and the end, he is our Lord and our God. Amen.

Sharing of Joys and Concerns & Prayers of the People

The Lord’s Prayer
"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.  Thy kingdom come, Thywill be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.”

Anthem - Advent Hallelujah by the Contemporary Choir and OMHPC Orchestra

Scripture - Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:18-25

Isaiah 7:14 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

14 But the Lord will still give you proof. A virgin[a] is pregnant; she will have a son and will name him Immanuel.[b]

Matthew 1:18-25 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

The Birth of Jesus

18 This is how Jesus Christ was born. A young woman named Mary was engaged to Joseph from King David’s family. But before they were married, she learned that she was going to have a baby by God’s Holy Spirit. 19 Joseph was a good man[a] and did not want to embarrass Mary in front of everyone. So he decided to quietly call off the wedding.
20 While Joseph was thinking about this, an angel from the Lord came to him in a dream. The angel said, “Joseph, the baby that Mary will have is from the Holy Spirit. Go ahead and marry her. 21 Then after her baby is born, name him Jesus,[b] because he will save his people from their sins.”
22 So the Lord’s promise came true, just as the prophet had said, 23 “A virgin will have a baby boy, and he will be called Immanuel,” which means “God is with us.”
24 After Joseph woke up, he and Mary were soon married, just as the Lord’s angel had told him to do. 25 But they did not sleep together before her baby was born. Then Joseph named him Jesus.

L: The Word of the Lord.
P: Thanks be to God.

Sung Response
“We give Thee but Thine own, whate’er the gift may be. All that we have is Thine alone, a trust O Lord from Thee.”

Communion
“Precious body, precious blood, here in bread and wine; here the Lord prepares the feast divine. Bread of love is broken now, cup of life is poured; come, share the supper of the lord.”

The Peace
LGod sent the world his only Son. Since God loved us so much, we too should love one another.
P: Let us love one another, since love comes from God.
L: The Peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
P: (to each other) The Peace of Christ be with you.

Hymn  247  Let’s Worship and Adore Him

Let’s worship and adore Him,
Let’s worship and adore Him,
Let’s worship and adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

For He alone is worthy,
For He alone is worthy,
For He alone is worthy,
Christ the Lord.

Benediction & Sung Response
May the Lord, Mighty God, bless and keep you forever; Grant you peace, perfect peace, courage in every endeavor. Lift your eyes and see his face, and his love forever. May the Lord, risen Lord, bless and keep you forever.

THANK YOU!!
The Board of Deacons would like to Say THANK YOU! The success of our Thanks giving Day Basket Project would not be possible without the many, many donations from our local organizations and our Very Generous Congregation. This year we distributed approximately 62 Baskets to Families in need, and 49 of them were filled & donated by Families/Individuals in our Congregation and Local Organizations. Overall The Board of Deacons with the help
of Congregational members, Girl Scouts/Brownies, 4-H and Cub Scouts, assembled 75 full Baskets. We were able to donate 5 additional baskets to Minisink Cares and the remainder to last minute needy Families. The remaining Baskets were recycled back into the food pantry stock. So a great big “THANKS” to All of You.
